Kai's Zoo Paintings: Day 12

I figured I would catch up on my days... So here is yet another post. And I'm not sure why, but I am feeling like painting is my craft for right now. 

I have this awesome friend who always makes me feel amazing when it comes to my talents. This friend was the first one to beg me to make a paining for her, so when she was having a baby shower and her theme was zoo animals I HAD to paint her some. There was just one problem... I couldn't decide what one or two animals to do. So, I painted 4 animals. :-)

Each of these animals are painted on 8x10 canvas boards. I had to come up with a way to keep them all cohesive and I did this by using the same vines, and back ground color. I also made sure that they were put in the same frame. I choose a frame-less frame, does that make since? It's one of those frames that are all glass and they have 4 clips that keep the glass and backing squeezed together. There isn't much to say about these painting except that they look so cute and I know that they are well loved. 

 

These little animals are so perfect! And what I like about basic themes is that there is a greater chance that when little Kai has a baby, his baby could use these in his room because the theme will always be around. Having something that will never get old is awesome, but for me sometimes it makes me sad to only have a picture of my crafts. :-( LOL

Painting is so rewarding and if you look around, you don't even have to paint all that great. I'm hoping some of my "talents" rub off on one or more of you and you get some crafts of your own going.

Antique Window Art: Day 11

As I just posted... I love old windows. My friend was having a baby boy and she wanted everything to match her chosen theme. For me, I was very unsure about what to get her because I was throwing her baby shower and I knew that everyone was getting her everything that she needed/wanted. 

So it was up to me to come up with a craft that worked with her theme. I had to Google how to paint on glass, I had never done it before and I wasn't sure if you could or not.

Well, obviously you can... LOL I found the theme that my friend wanted and redrew the image that I liked on the front of the window because I was still very unsure about how durable the paint would be. This painting was so difficult! 


I never knew exactly how it was going to look. It took so many layers. I had to start with the front layers and then work to the top layers. There were many times that I hated this painting because it just didn't look right. But once I got all of the layers on this window it became AMAZING! 


I'm not sure if I would ever do another big paining like this on a window but I have told my friend that if she ever get rid of this painting, she BETTER give it back to me. LOL

Antique Window Art: Day 10

Yes... I missed another day. Sorry! This week/weekend has been so CRAZY! I am really going to have to find a better time to post to my blog. But I think my post today will make up for my missing day. :-)


With my hubby being in the Air Force, my family and I get to go on adventures every 2-4 yrs. Who else can say that? When we moved from Virginia to Alaska, my family got very upset and wanted something to keep close to them. So I battled with what to give or make and this is what I came up with.


To start off with I have my Craigslist windows (free), some paint, and some pictures. When you put all of those together this is what you get!

I love old windows and I love silhouettes. My problem was how do I put the two together... I took a close up picture of each of my kids. I enlarged them to 8x10s and placed them on the front of the window. Then all you do is paint the window black when you see the kids' faces. To add a little interest I added sprigs of hair on my son, eye lashes on my girls and added a bit of color to the girls' hair ties.


My mom and sisters LOVED these windows that now hang on their walls. Thank you for viewing today... See yall tomorrow!

Baby Beanie: Day 9

First off I was to apologize for not posting yesterday. The day started off normal then quickly turned into a horrible day. By the end of last night I was way too drained mentally, physically and spiritually. However, today is a better day.

My hubby helped me with the creation of this project. I have made a lot of beanies. I think the are just too cute on little babies, especially with a LKaye Boutique bow or flower attached. Lol

One of my hubby's coworkers' wife was pregnant with a baby girl and we were invited to their baby shower. Of course I was gonna make her a tutu and a headband, but I wanted to make her something else too. Having a baby in Alaska, it's very important to keep the baby's head covered. So I decided to make her a beanie, but my hubby said that it was just too plain. In comes ribbons and a button.


This simple beanie has layers of ribbon place in opposite directions and then has a glitter button sew on the very top. The only thing I would do different is to maybe curl the ribbons. I believe that way they would be more noticeable.

Military Nametape Bracelet: Day 8

I'm not sure if it's just a military thing or not, but I love having my hubby's name with me at all times. No... Not his given name but his surname. I am so honored and blessed to be his wife. He is truly my hero!


The main item that I carry around with is name on it is my military ID, however I can't display that or craft it up so I had to find something else.


I was online a few months ago planning on making a military purse, but I'm not a great sewer and I get irritated very quickly at times. So as I'm searching for templates I come across a Facebook page with amazing Nametape bracelets. This lady was ridiculously busy and I had planned on buying from her, her work was perfect! However before I could buy, her page gets bombarded with disrespect and discrimination against my husband's chosen military branch. Each branch is a smaller family inside of the larger family of the military. Anyways, I was gonna leave it alone and still buy from her and then she joined in. That was IT!!! I had no choice but to figure out how to make one of my own.

This bracelet is really easy and only calls for basic sewing skills. I stole one of my hubby's BDU name tags. I then glued two strips of ribbons folded over at the ends and then another one all the way across the back. Then you sew around it all, add a clasp and your pretty much done. See! Like I said simple!


For me this is a great way to show my love, honor and respect of not only my hubby but of a military personnel protecting my family's freedom. It's also a great way to keep him close to me when he has to leave and do his job elsewhere.


I am so in love with my hubby and my bracelet and I can't wait till I get to make some more. I already have 2 more name tags waiting for so crafting to happen.

V's Bows: Day 7

An awesome friend of mine recently requested a large project from me. Of course I was happy to say yes.


She asked me to make her daughter, V bows and/or streamers for all of the holidays and then a few extras. What an awesome challenge, right?

This is the first bow in V's set. I really love this bow. I stacked spikes and bows on top of each other to create a multi layered look. This layered look makes this bow scream Halloween! By adding a button on the top of the bow helps to pull the concept together. 


V is gonna love her very own set of LKaye Boutique bows and streamers, (oh and her surprise gift that is included.)

Hair Streamers: Day 6

My youngest daughter hates to have her hair cut, ever since we got it cut and her bouncy curls were no more. Now my baby girl's hair is so long. It almost touches the top of her bottom.

Having this much hair she tends to pull it back into pony-tails. This is not a problem for me except for the fact that I get sick and tired of seeing nothing but black ouch-less pony-tail holders holding her hair out of her face.


After months of this aggravating me I decided to do something about it. In walks hair streamers. I first saw simple hair streamers in Michael's, however there was no way that I would pay what the were asking.

I examined their streamers and realized that they used something that I hate, yet ALL crafters over use. Hot glue guns!!! Why would you use them for something that has to be flexible??? It makes no sense to me. So what did I do? Yes! I made my own!


These are yet another very simple craft. However because I decided to sew everything instead of using hot glue, it did take me a little more time and became a little more challenging. Having said that; the ones I make are so much more durable.

For these all you need is an ouch-less hair tie, ribbons, needle and thread. Plus any accessories that you might want to add. You will see in a latter post what I mean by that.
